Lindsay Costello fell for The Red Bus when she was a bride. Now she is one of our conductors.
When my husband and I were planning our wedding I suggested we hire a Routemaster as I knew how much he loves them. Bob grew up in London and travelled to school every day on the number 159 bus with his brothers and friends. I think he became a bus enthusiast from a very young age.
After our ceremony we boarded The Red Bus and travelled to South Queensferry. Some of our guests from London had never seen the Forth Bridges and it was a good spot for photos. The day was truly magical and being on The Red Bus was fantastic. We had our music playing and a few drinks on the way. Our photos on the bus were really nice and thanks to Gordon the driver, who was happy with me having a picture taken in the driver’s seat.
I chatted to our friendly conductor and asked her about working on The Red Bus. I thought, wow I would love to do this! Then I thought I would get in touch as nothing ventured nothing gained. I was delighted when I was invited for an interview, given a trial and then taken on to be part of the team.
In my full-time job I work with children in education so this is something completely different for me, which is exciting. I enjoy being part of the guests’ special day and looking after everyone.
My favourite shift was a ladies’ special birthday surprise, her family and friends watched her favourite film at the Dominion Cinema [in Edinburgh] and when they came out we were waiting for her. Her husband had planned the route and spoke about memories of places that were special to them throughout the years as we drove past each destination. It was so thoughtful and special.
We celebrated our third wedding anniversary in July 2026. On that day I was down to conduct and by coincidence the couple went to beautiful South Queensferry too. It always brings back happy memories of celebrating with our family and friends. They were a lovely group too. I wanted to ensure that all the guests were just as happy as we were on our special day.
Every shift is unique, which makes me feel very lucky to be part of it. I’m so glad I got in touch to enquire about conducting. This job has given me a lot of happy experiences and has helped me grow in confidence. So a big thank you from me.
